blindspot is a festival where people can learn more about their dreams by enhancing their other senses, rather than relying on sight. because many festivals depend on visuals, the visually impaired don't get to experience the festival in its entirety. it's not only meant for people who are blind, but for anyone interested in learning about their other senses
and how we may or may
not experience them in
our dreams.
The festival
includes activities,
speakers, performers,
etc. in the program where
they can learn to utilize
sound, smell, and touch
in a different way. The
audience will leave
being more knowledgeable
about dream psychology
and their senses.

Poster | Because many people with visual impairments can't see their dreams (some might see shapes, others might see different shades of light and luminosity, and some might not be able to see at all) this poster helps people who are blind to physically feel their dreams. After learning about one of my friends dreams, I collaged images that bring to life the narrative, then converted the images to black & white half-tone dots, laser etched the design on to wood, and embossed the collage on to vellum so that she can feel the different tones of color in her dream. Half tones split images into smaller and larger points, depending on how much color is being displayed. For example, if something is really light, the dots are very small and if something is dark, the dots are enlarged. Although someone who is blind might not be able to see color, he/she can feel how light or dark something is, and be able to react to imagery, art, and in this case dreams in a different way.

Logo | The Logo is typeset in Avenir. The geometric letters mimic the dots from the braille letterforms. The color is set in black and white to assure simplicity and accommodate people who may be color blind or who may have any other visual impairments.
